Security’s David Shropshire takes off on a 30-yard sprint after snagging an interception late in the first quarter.
The Basic School’s Weapons took a back seat to Security Battalion Nov. 16, with a 13-6 loss in a flag football game at Freeney field.
Levar Baker scored the first touchdown of the game for TBS after snagging an interception from Security and catching a pass from TBS Quarterback Brett Schaal.
TBS’ unsuccessful extra-point attempt left them with a lead of 6-0 to start the game.
Security Quarterback Dallas Duncantell scored his team’s first touchdown with a 10-yard run and was also able to land the extra point sending them into the lead 7-6.
With five minutes left in the half and TBS on offense, Security’s Joseph Anderson was able to put a stop to their play by smacking the ball out of the air on fourth down.
Security regained offense, but it wasn’t long before another pass was intercepted by TBS, this time at their own 1-yard line.
The ball was brought back to the 20-yard line with TBS on offense.
Possession seemed to switch hands like a hot potato as David Shropshire intercepted a more than 20-yard pass with only three seconds left in the half. The first half ended with security in the lead 7-6.
Security picked up the pace in the second half making their way downfield with three consecutive passes.
TBS was able to stick Duncantell at the 20-yard line playing tight defense and takingpossession after three poor passes and apulled flag.
Possession quickly changed hands again as Security played even tighter defense on TBS.
Josiah Caldwell scored Security’s second touchdown, but the extra point attempt was no good.
With heavy pressure, TBS was unable to make a comeback, and with only a few seconds left in the game, Schaal launched a 30-yard pass to any open player who could get to it fast enough. Security’s Andrew Reid was that player.
With Security back on the offense and three seconds on the clock, it was game over for TBS. Security celebrated their 13-6 victory.
‘‘It was an overall complete team victory,” said Duncantell. ‘‘There were a lot of tough calls.”
With Tuesday’s win, Security now has a record of 9-3.
‘‘Our defense has been winning our games,” said Duncantell. ‘‘Right now we’re just trying to perfect our offense to get ready for the playoffs.”
Flag football playoffs are scheduled to begin Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. on Freeney Field.
