Thanksgiving dinner for dormitory residents unable to go home for the holidays is 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Honor Guard Ceremonial Hall.

All Airmen living in the Honor Guard dorms or Blanchard Barracks are welcome to attend this free event. This is an event for Airmen, by Airmen, to promote morale and teamwork among Bolling’s junior enlisted.

‘‘The Airmen in the dorm cook together on a smaller scale all the time, so why wouldn’t we have our large ‘family’ meals together?” said Airman 1st Class Katherine Windish, event coordinator. ‘‘We work together, we live together, we’re going to eat together — we are a family and we’re celebrating Thanksgiving together as a family. Our family is always open to new additions also.”

The menu includes traditional Thanksgiving entrees, sides and desserts, to include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green-bean casserole, sweet potato soufflÈ, bread, salad and assorted pies.

‘‘Several people have set us up for success with donations of money and food — we’ve received donations from the Top 3, First Sergeants Council, and more,” Airman Windish said. ‘‘I know the sentiment among the junior enlisted in the dorms is appreciation for the fact that senior leadership has stepped up to donate, but also stepped back enough to let us thoroughly enjoy our day off without our bosses around.”

Cooking will begin at 7 a.m. in the second- and third-floor community kitchens of the Honor Guard dorms. Any junior enlisted member willing to volunteer with cooking or setting up is welcome.

‘‘We have 94 percent occupancy rate in the dorms right now and new Airmen arriving every day, so it’s close to impossible for everyone to know everyone,” Airman Windish said. ‘‘A holiday like this is a great way to make new friends and get to know the people you live and work with. This is going to be a laid-back, casual event — so feel free to come in your sweats and eat lots of good home cooking.”
