Engineers Steve White, foreground, and Daniel Grant manned the NAWCAD education outreach exhibit, providing students the new ‘‘Engineering Go For It” magazine published by the American Society of Engineering Education and talked about education pathways and STEM careers at Pax River.
Students from Maryland and Virginia converged upon the College of Southern Maryland’s La Plata Campus Oct. 31 for the Second Annual Youth in Technology Summit.
Displays and interactive demonstrations were the focal point of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division’s participation, drawing large gatherings throughout the six-hour event aimed at cultivating interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The event was organized by the Vyelax Company and drew an estimated 600 middle and high school students, teachers and parents for exhibits, demonstrations and workshops.
Education outreach coordinator Kathy Glockner organized the NAWCAD presence at the event, which included three demonstrations and two exhibits. Glockner also gave three workshops to students and parents on the University of Maryland’s mechanical engineering degree at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center and the cooperative education program offered at Pax River.
