The Quantico Warriors ended the regular season on a high note Friday night at Quantico Middle⁄High School with a 53 – 36 victory over Hyde School of D.C.

The Quantico senior captains walked to the center of the field to meet the representatives of the opposing team for the last time in their varsity careers. They were accompanied by their parents who wore jerseys with their sons’ numbers on them.

The Warriors dominated the first half, quickly scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter alone. Once again, Quantico’s aggressive offense was punctuated by seniors Trey’s and Denzel’s playing.

Trey’s 50-yard carry to the end zone in the first few minutes of the game set the atmosphere for much of the rest of the half.

In contrast, Hyde School’s performance throughout the half was marked by its unsuccessful attempts to penetrate Quantico’s defense, resulting in a series ofincomplete passes and interceptions.

The Quantico offense carried the ball down the field with ease, while the defense had HSDC struggling to get past the line of scrimmage.

The half was almost over when the Hyde offense suddenly woke from its apparent stupor. Antoine evaded the Warriors’ defense all the way to the end zone for Hyde’s first touchdown with little more than three minutes remaining in the half.

With Quantico up 34-8 at halftime, a Warriorsvictory seemed certain; however, Hyde put up more of a fight during the following half.

Hyde managed to maintain possession of the ball long enough to gain another eight points in the third quarter, while Quantico’s offense fumbled the ball at least once and was penalized for illegal holding.

Hyde would score another 18 points in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors kept up their superior performance, recovering a fumble and making passing plays difficult for Hyde.

Rain fell in a fine mist near the end of the game, but any adverse weather had come too late when the buzzer signaled the end of the second half.

‘‘We had a great season,” said Mike Feldman, the Warriors’ assistant coach.

For the seniors taking the field at QMHS for the last time, it was not just another game.

‘‘I left everything out on the field,” said Trey, who was pulled from the game early in the second half when another player stepped on his ankle. ‘‘It was my last game, and I had no other choice than to leaveeverything out there.”

At the end of the last practice before the game Friday, Blackson said, all the players got really emotional, especially the seniors on the team.

‘‘When Trey gets hurt, I know he looks to me to step up,” said Brothers. ‘‘So I had to get my adrenaline pumping. We let a lot of things get sloppy in the second half. We let them score a few times, but near the end we tightened our playing back up and came out on top.”
