At Bolling's Slip Inn Bar & Grill, Conchita Cabrera (in a red shirt) urges the guests attending her birthday party to ‘‘get up and dance to the music.”
Conshita Cabrera knew the Slip Inn was the ideal place for a birthday party; she has been working there for almost 30 years.

‘‘I am so happy,” Cabrera said during the festivities Oct. 31 at the club on Bolling AFB. More than 300 people attended her birthday party. ‘‘I invited relatives, friends, and (close acquaintances) from 11th Services,” she said.

It seemed like everyone showed up. The crowd definitely showed a sense of celebration and camaraderie. Presents were piled on a center table. People mingled on the deck. Conversations paused occasionally as folks yelled out their approval and clapped appreciatively for the karaoke singers who performed audience requests or other tunes from DJ Jojo’s play list. The singers entertained the crowd with easy listening music, including a revamped rendition of ‘‘The Love Boat” theme song, which elicited more cheers and applause from the audience.

The buffet included eggrolls, mini-empanadas, skewered jumbo shrimps and scallops, skewered chicken breast and pork, fried noodles, roast beef slices, Swiss cheese and turkey sandwich rolls, a veggie platter, and hot chili with beans.

There also was a dessert section that included, among other things, a fruit bowl, purple rice cakes, gelatine peaches, and, of course, birthday cake.

Cabrera played the perfect hostess warmly welcoming people to the party and making sure they had enough food and got comfortable seating.

She said that the party could not have gone so smoothly without help from co-workers, including Kitchen Manager Terri Ray, food service worker Vicenza Lagman, Bar Manager Olga Leyh, and many others, as well as from her husband, Cesar, and friend Mel Sabale, who performed pivotal duties preparing and attending to the food available on the buffet.
