The Bolling Air Force Base Joint Visitors’ Center was newly minted with a ribbon cutting Sept. 29 to mark the completion of renovations that include new carpet and paint.

Lt. Col. Allan Conkey, 11th Security Forces Squadron, opened the ceremony with a few complimentary remarks about the JVC’s new look.

‘‘The JVC was due for a facelift,” said Colonel Conkey. ‘‘Now people will be left with a more positive impression when they come in, and we’ll be able to more successfully welcome folks.”

On hand to cut the ribbon were Samuel Hamilton, general services clerk; Staff Sgt. Shalanda Ogaldes, NCO-in-charge of the JVC; Master Sgt. Bruce Stohlman, JVC superintendent; Lisa Doering, access control manager; Duane Wood, EMCOR Government Services contractor; Col. Jon A. Roop, 11th Wing commander; and Navy Capt. John Sears, Naval Support Activity Washington commanding officer.

‘‘We’ve got great Air Force, Navy and DIA folks here at the JVC working together for the security of our installation,” said Capt. Sears. ‘‘The renovations are just icing on the cake.”

The $47,000 project was paid for by the Air Force and coordinated and contracted through the Navy. Steve Scaphone, a civilian from the Naval Research Lab, headed up quality control and monitored contractor performance.

‘‘Overall, it went pretty smooth,” said Mr. Scaphone. ‘‘It was coordinated really well.”

The JVC has been housed at Building 256 since 2003. The JVC staff services about 400 people a day and more than 6,000 a month issuing contractor identification, Geneva Convention cards, restricted area badges, visitor passes and vehicle decal registrations.

The staff is comprised of 17 people representing military, civilian, Navy and Air Force.
