Seasonal Flu Prevention

Vaccination is especially important for people at high risk for serious flu complications, including young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, or heart and lung disease and people over 64 years old. The CDC recommends a yearly seasonal flu vaccine, which protects against the three seasonal viruses that research suggests are most common. For information on how to obtain a flu vaccination, visit the NHC Annapolis Web site at www.med.navy.mil⁄sites⁄annapolis⁄Pages⁄ default. aspx. Healthy people are more resistant to contagious diseases, so it is important to get adequate sleep, eat nutritious food and keep physically active. Medical experts encourage everyone to frequently wash their hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand cleaner. Exposure to people with coughs and fevers should be limited. Common facemasks may reduce the spread of cough and sneeze droplets from people who have the flu.

School-Age Care Program

MWR Youth Programs offers care for children before and after school hours. Registration is available at the Youth Center, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The program operates Monday through Friday from 6:30-9 a.m. and 2:30-5:30 p.m., excluding federal holidays, and includes supervised activities such as arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, help with homework and an afternoon snack.
