Deployment Health Clinical Center

Combat stress affects everyone, not only servicemembers, but their significant others and family as well. The Deployment Health Clinical Center at Walter Reed Army Medical Center is offering a one-week program Nov. 16-20, for spouses, parents, siblings, and significant others of those struggling with trauma related to service in a combat environment.

The group-oriented program examines the physiological, behavioral, emotional and cognitive effects of stress and how it affects people after a servicemember returns from combat.

Significant others will learn about the impact of combat stress on servicemembers, family roles and relationships, parenting issues, and communication.

Elements of the program include a support group, lecture and discussions, relaxation and acupuncture. Exercise, diet and sleep hygiene are other topics to be covered in the program.

Significant others will also be taught how to take care of themselves and their loved ones affected by combat stress.

For more information or to sign up for the program, call Lyn Stano at (202) 782-8970, or e-mail nancy.stano@amedd.army.mil.
