Nearly 40 military personnel and civilian employees for the Aegis Training and Readiness Center (ATRC) were recognized in an awards ceremony conducted by Capt. Russell Haas, Commanding Officer, on Oct. 23 that featured the presentation of a wide range of awards and citations.
Military decorations awarded included the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, presented to:
Lt. Ronald Smith, earning his second award for service as electronics material officer in the guided missile destroyer USS O’Kane (DDG 77).
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Stephen Fleming, earning his second award for service at ATRC as Aegis Display Track III instructor.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Harold Singleton Jr., earning his second award for service as Fire Control Systems Element instructor.
Chief Fire Controlman (Surface Warfare) William Wert, Aegis Computer Element Leading Chief Petty Officer.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Justin Holliday, Aegis Computer Element Leading Petty Officer and instructor.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Gregory Maciejewski, Aegis Display Element Leading Petty Officer and instructor.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Brian Marvin, Leading Petty Officer for ATRC’s Tactical Maintenance Department.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Jonathan Ritchie, ACNT, Computer and Display Elements Leading Petty Officer and instructor.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Nicholas Tsikouris, Aegis Display Track III track supervisor and instructor.
Fire Controlman 2nd Class (Surface Warfare) Nathan Heck, AN⁄SPY-1A radar instructor.
Eight Sailors were awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal:

Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) James Andrus Jr. (5th award), tactical display maintenance technician and training support supervisor.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Matthew Cline Jr. (4th award), Aegis Display Element instructor and Aegis Display Track I supervisor.
Electrician’s Mate 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Michael Moorman (3rd award), command 3-MC and Facilities Maintenance Department Leading Petty Officer.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) David Brown II (3rd award), instructor.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) John Maier (3rd award), instructor.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Jeremy Mildish (3rd award), AN⁄SPY-1A instructor.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Justin Davis (2nd award), Aegis Fire Control System element instructor.
Recipient of the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal was Fire Controlman 2nd Class Nathan Heck. He was commended for his work with Rappahannock Region Big Brothers⁄Big Sisters, for his assistance with the Paralyzed Veterans Association and as a regional volunteer funeral detail coordinator.
Receiving his third Good Conduct Award was Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Jonathan Ritchie.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) William Brackett II was presented a flag letter of commendation from Naval Education and Training Command for his work as an instructor at the Apprentice Technical Training Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit, Great Lakes, Ill.
Capt. Haas offered a letter of appreciation and ATRC’s Good Will Ambassador certificate to Ethridge Yong for her support to international students assigned to ATRC.
Ten ATRC Sailors receiving a certificate of appreciation from Rappahannock Big Brothers⁄Big Sisters for their work with the 15th annual Golf Classic to Benefit Kids included Chief Fire Controlman Jermaine Whitfield, Fire Controlman 1st Class Matthew Beard, Fire Controlman 1st Class Eric Maier, Fire Controlman 1st Class Phillip Owen, Fire Controlman 2nd Class Alfarshawn Gill, Fire Controlman 3rd Class Vanessa Graham, Fire Controlman 3rd Class Benjamin Magsamen, Fire Controlman Seaman Elizabeth Baker, Fire Controlman Seaman Robert Splaine and Fire Controlman Seaman Apprentice Jonathan Carrillo.
Sailors recognized for their advancement to Fire Controlman 3rd Class included FC3 James Fountain, FC3 Benjamin Magsamen and FC3 Tanner Vanderford.
Acknowledged as ATRC’s Combat Systems Officers of the Watch were Fire Controlman 1st Class Darnell Williams, Fire Controlman 1st Class Jose Tinajero and Fire Controlman 2nd Class Christopher Donnelly.
The event also served as an occasion to welcome aboard recent arrivals to ATRC, to include Lt. Ronald Smith, Chief Fire Controlman Scott Fearnow, Chief Fire Controlman John Melton Jr., Fire Controlman 2nd Class James Mounts and Fire Controlman 2nd Class Christopher Scheier.
