Tech. Sgt. Tiffany Hart and her son Mekhi talk with child⁄youth staff counselor April Adams-Fowler at the Bolling Youth Center about current schoolwork and the Air Force’s upcoming family talent show.
You will have a chance to strut your stuff at the Air Force’s Annual Family and Teen Talent Show.
The talent show, called ‘‘You Got Talent,” is scheduled for Nov. 21. Registration is open now.
This way, people have the maximum time to pick out music and practice, said Paddy Lynn, the Youth Center program director.
‘‘We want folks to know about it as soon as possible, so I’ve already started to tell the kids about it,” she said.
Lynn estimated that ‘‘at the base level, we usually have 12 to 16 entries, and we combine our talent show performances with those of Andrews AFB.”
The categories will be vocal, instrumental, and dance performances.
These are divided into different age groups: 6-8 year olds, 9-12, and 13-18, as well as team brackets for military parent and child, and military husband and wife.
For the military parent and child category, contestants must have immediate family relations, but they can have combinations, such as a mother and her two daughters, a father and his son and daughter, or both parents and their child.
As for the military husband and wife division, ‘‘I think this teaming is open for retired military couples, too,” Lynn said.
She added that ‘‘since we had the annual talent show performances at Bolling AFB last year, this year we are thinking of having them at the Andrews AFB theatre.”
A judging panel, usually mixed with people who have performance experience such as dance instructors and Air Force Band members, selects the winners at base level, Lynn said.
The performances are taped, and the video of base-level winners are forwarded to the Air Force Services Headquarters in San Antonio to compete on an Air Force-wide level. For information about the talent show, contact the staff at the Bolling AFB Youth Center at 202-767-4003.
