Wingman Day has been set aside for leadership and Airmen to stand down from the 11th Wing's mission to discuss important issues, give constructive feedback to leadership, develop the Wingman mentality and make Team Bolling a great place to work.

Wingman Day was started by former Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John P. Jumper in October 2004 when he ordered an Air Force-wide program to help Wingmen in today’s Air Force be afforded a chance to get to know one another while lifting morale.

We Are Family<P> The 11th Wing’s 2009 Wingman Day theme is ‘‘We Are Family” and is from 8-11 a.m. Nov. 13 at the Bolling Club, Capital Ballroom.

The morning will consist of opening remarks from 11th Wing commander and command chief master sergeant, followed by briefings ranging from safety to suicide awareness, sexual assault response and others.

‘‘The goal is to engage each Airman in an operational experience, emphasizing responsible choices, team building, and stress management to revitalize our culture of Airmen taking care of Airmen,” said Chief Daniel Jacobs, 11th Operations Group superintendent.

Attendees will then be released to their individual units to participate in activities created to help foster positive interunit relationships and build morale.

11th OG Wingman Day Nov. 10

Allowing for the 11th Operations Group’s Arlington National Cemetery mission, the 11th OG will hold its Wingman Day from 9-11 a.m. Nov. 10, also in the Capital Ballroom, after their fitness-trail physical training session starting at the Slip Inn at 7:30 a.m.

The 11th OG will host a plethora of such activities, which will include a survival game and a commander’s call.

Although the 11th MSG and Wing staff agencies have not finalized their Wingman Day itinerary, their events will be similar.

The Amazing Race

The ‘‘Amazing Race,” a 10-kilometer course with obstacles, modeled after CBS’ reality television show, will be held from 12 - 2 p.m. Nov. 13, also as part of Wingman Day. The race is not mandatory but all 11th Wing Airmen are encouraged to participate as a wing alternative to the usual group or squadron bonding time. All participants will receive a T-shirt and prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners.

Teams of four can sign up with their squadron point of contact. Each team must have at least one female. Because of equipment shortages, each squadron will be limited to two teams.

‘‘Participants should be prepared for lots of running, and lots of fun,” said Capt. Janeka Jones, 11th Mission Support Group executive officer and organizer for the race.

Service members are welcome to cheer on their teams, or participate in activities within their squadrons or groups.

‘‘The whole day is meant for us all to get together and strengthen the relationships within our units,” Chief Jacobs said. ‘‘This is a great opportunity for us to become better Wingmen. As a family, we need to take care of our No. 1 asset — our people.”
