IA indoctrination:Sign-up earlyP> Because of the holiday, pre-registration for the next Individual Augmentee Indoctrination, which begins Monday, closes today at 4 p.m. The usual closing is on the Friday before the class starts.

The IA Indoctrination will start Monday at 8 a.m. Those who have been selected as IAs are encouraged to report to the Fleet and Family Service Center (Bldg. 2090) on TAD orders for this week-long process. Various presenters will cover the full range of subjects and procedures necessary before deployment. Spouses should attend Wednesday, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m., to hear the experiences of recently-returned IAs as well as important information about family support issues.

Get a safe, sober ride home

If you find yourself needing a safe and sober ride from a local bar this weekend, check with the bartender about the ‘‘Tipsy Taxi.” It’s a program funded by St. Mary’s County that can get you home safely. The bartender will fill out a ‘‘Tipsy Taxi” card, call the company providing the service, and present the card to the cab driver. You are then taken home, and the fare is paid by the St. Mary’s County Highway Safety Dept.

Gate 1 constructionstarts Monday

Construction will begin Monday on Pax River’s Gate 1 with a projected completion date of Oct. 30. Construction will be conducted evenings and weekends. During this time, Gate 1 will be closed from 6:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. weekdays and from 6:30 p.m. Fridays to 5:30 a.m. Mondays. Gate 2 will be the 24-hour gate while construction takes place at Gate 1.

Improvements to Gate 1 will include installation of two new sentry houses, canopy, undercarriage inspection system, barriers, back-up generator, lighting and removable bollards for traffic control.

Reduced staffing at clinic

The Pax River Naval Health Clinic will have reduced staffing starting at noon today, July 2. The clinic will close at 6 p.m. for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Anyone needing to see a provider that day for an urgent care appointment should call 301-342-1506. The pharmacy will remain open during this period with reduced staffing. Patients are urged to obtain their refill medications before noon July 2. For more information, call Jane Hambel at 301-995-4980.

BlueCross⁄BlueShield

The BlueCross⁄BlueShield Carefirst representative will visit Pax River Wednesday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Room 159 of Bldg. 1489. For more information call 240-925-0628 or visit www.secondhoperescue.org.

Book signing

The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum will have a lecture and book signing by author Craig Nelson as part of its ‘‘Flight Test Tech Talk” series July 14, 4 - 7 p.m. Nelson will present and discuss his new book ‘‘Rocket Men: The Epic Story of the First Men on the Moon,” published June 29 by Viking Penguin.
