Army Col. Kent Maneval presents awards to Air Force Lt. Col. Kevin Wright.
An Air Force officer who worked closely with the Afghan National Army has been recognized for his efforts.
Air Force Lt. Col. Kevin Wright, of the Defense Medical Standardization Board, received the medal from Army Col. Kent Maneval, deputy director of the DMSB June 22. Wright was being honored for work as a pharmacy mentor to the Afghan National Army for serving as the ANA 205th Corps Deputy Trauma Czar January through December 2008.
He led a five-man team in building an Afghanistan national formulary to serve 70,000 ANA active duty and their 1 million family members. He personally reviewed over 5,000 drug options that laid the foundation for ANA healthcare for the next 10 years. He oversaw $5.5 million in equipment and supplies, supporting the entire 205th Corps.
Wright also received a Defense Meritorious Service medal for his service as the Pharmacy Division Chief at the Defense Medical Standardization Board here.
His leadership in the Shelf Life Extension Program was key to maintaining the operational readiness of $2.1 billion in stockpiled pharmaceuticals, while cost avoiding more than a billion dollars in replacement costs over the last three years.
He is also credited for co-authoring the response to the White House on Pandemic Influenza Implementation Strategy that defined the protocol for managing $75 million in Pandemic Influenza assets.
He also crafted a Memorandum of Agreement with Health Affairs for their $68 million Pandemic Influenza cache that cost-avoided $34 million annually.
