Fort Detrick Police Chief Dan Shereika, Officer Jeffery C. Wright and American Legion Post # 11 commander Joseph J. Kundrat, Jr. pose with Wright’s Police Officer of the Year award. Wright currently serves as a housing officer with the Fort Detrick police Department, working with military families on post. He was recognized for exemplary service and outstanding dedication to duty.
A Fort Detrick police officer has been honored by the American Legion as Police Officer of the Year. Officer Jeffery C. Wright received the award recently at American legion post #11. The Vietnam vet and former Baltimore police officer serves at Fort Detrick as a family housing officer. While on duty with Baltimore he was shot at point blank range with a shotgun and lost his trigger finger in 1988.
‘‘When a lesser man might have retired, Officer Wright returned to duty,” said Fort Detrick Police Chief Dan Shereika. ‘‘He served until 1991.”
After retirement, Wright worked as a Private Investigator, Bailiff and Civilian Evidence Technician with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office. He came to work for the Detrick force in 2007. ‘‘Officer Wright not only far exceeded my expectations but continues to impress me to this very day,” said Shereika. ‘‘There has been a significant reduction in domestic violence and larceny reports since his appointment as a housing officer.”
