Grief resolution management

The Walter Reed chaplain’s office will host a grief resolution management seminar today. The seminar is worth continuing education credits. The workshop will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Chrys Parker and Dr. Glen Samis, both experts in grief and psychological trauma. For more information call Chaplain Gutting at (202) 782-6054.

USO job fair

The Joint Employment Transition Services (JETS) and the USO of Metropolitan Washington are hosting a job fair today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Belvoir Officers’ Club, 5500 Schulz Circle, Fort Belvoir. Dozens of potential employers, including area police and fire departments, federal agencies, health-care agencies, defense and government contractors, are participating to discuss job openings with candidates.

All military I.D. card holders are eligible to attend. Bring resumes and be prepared for on-site interviews. No children please.

Asian Pacific Heritage

The Asian Pacific American Heritage Month command observance at Walter Reed Army Medical Center is May 29 at 11:30 a.m. in Heaton Pavilion’s Joel Auditorium. Food sampling and dance performances are planned. Everyone’s invited.

BOSS slates activities

Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers is hosting a trip to New York City May 31. The bus departs from Wagner Sports Center at 6 a.m., and returns at 11 p.m. Attendees must be 18 or older. Sign-up is no later than May 23 and the bus seats only 45 people. Cost is $8. Lunch with the Law

The Lunch with the Law lectures, sponsored by the Office of the Legal Counsel, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, begin Monday at noon in AFIP’s Dart Auditorium in Bldg. 54. A CAC card or driver’s license is required to enter the building. The lectures are open to all AFIP and WRAMC staff. Monday’s topic is slated to be ‘‘Complementary, Alternative and Integrative Medicine and Potential Policy and Liability Issues.” Continuing Medical Education credit is possible. Anger, stress management

How do you cool down before things heat up? One way is to participate in the Department of Social Work’s six-week anger and stress management group. The group is scheduled to meet from May 23 through June 27 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Borden Pavilion’s 4th floor DCI conference room.

Learn to manage anger, conflict, emotions, behavior and stress more effectively. Explore the benefits of calming down strategies through deep breathing, meditation and cognitive restructuring. Identify the impact of personal issues and stress on anger. Prevent anger and stress from controlling your life.

Wynonna Judd concert<P> A concert for WRAMC staff and patients featuring Wynonna Judd is May 22 from 2 to 2:45 p.m. in Walter Reed’s Wagner Sports Center. Doors open at 1 p.m. for the concert. The event will also include an opening act and other activities. The concert will be shown on Channel 33 and can be seen in Joel Auditorium.

Memoral Chapel workshop

Workshop scheduled June 7, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Topics covered include: praise and worship, movind onward with God’s grace, AIDS, self-esteem, favorite Bible verses, poems and songs, cleaning up your credit rating, how to live and eat well, photography, dealing with stress, benefits of massage, caring for your body naturally and writing a journal. Claims notification

Anyone with debts owed to or by the estate of Staff Sgt. Kevin R. Thornton, formerly of Charlie Company at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, should contact 1st Lt. Andre C. Chance, summary court martial officer for Thornton, who died April 25, 2008. First Lt. Chance can be reached at (202) 782-7743.

Study volunteers needed

Hearing-impaired volunteers, aged 18-69, are invited to participate in a research study investigating the effects of age on the ability to understand speech in background noise. Participation in the study requires up to six two-hour visits. Participants may be active duty or civilian, but must be eligible for care at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. EEO counselor’s course

The Walter Reed Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Office is sponsoring an EEO Counselor’s Course June 23-27 in the Distance Learning Center in Bldg. 1, first floor, Rm. D-109A. The course is designed to instruct and develop employees in carrying out the duties of the Department of Army’s EEO complaint program. Participation in this course requires the supervisor’s approval and signature on the nomination form which is available by contacting Darlene Wheeler at (202) 782-0511. Occupation clinic closures
