The Naval Observatory has scheduled an Earth Day cleanup for Thursday, May 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plan on meeting in the Observatory picnic area with a long-sleeved shirt, jeans and gloves – this is a ‘‘hands-dirty” event!
Krista Grigg, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) environmental, with the assistance of representatives from the Baltimore Aquarium, will be conducting a 30-minute training session from 9:30 to 10 a.m. on invasive plant species and how to properly remove them.
From 10 a.m. to noon volunteers will be divided in groups and go to specific areas for invasive species removal and general base cleanup. The event will conclude with lunch in the picnic area at the Naval Observatory.

Free home buying workshop
The Naval Support Activity Washington Housing Welcome Center in Bldg. 414, Naval Support Facility Anacostia, will conduct a free homebuyers’ workshop May 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All new and repeat homebuyers are encouraged to sign up.
Attendees will hear first-hand from industry experts who discuss the home buying process, from the application to the closing. The workshop covers topics like: knowing when to buy; where to look; what financing options are available; taking advantage of tax write-offs; and how much home can one afford?

Navy College Graduation Recognition Ceremony
The Navy College Office at NSF Anacostia will host its fourth annual Graduation Recognition Ceremony, June 13 at 10 a.m., aboard the display ship ex-USS Barry on the Navy Yard. Participation in the ceremony is open to those service members who have completed degrees and certifications from August 2007 through June 2008.

MY BIZ update!
MY BIZ self-service human resources (HR) tools are now available to everyone.
HR Service Center is pleased to announce the launch of a new feature of the Defense Civilian Personnel Data System (DCPDS), MY BIZ. MY BIZ is a web-based self-service HR option that allows Department of Navy appropriated fund employees to access information from their official personnel records.
MY BIZ features information related to your employment organized under categories such as appointment, position, personal, salary, etc. It also allows you to update certain personal information, including phone number, E-mail address, foreign language proficiency and more.
In addition there is a ‘‘favorites” category in MY BIZ that contains links to several Web sites such as Office of Personnel Management (OPM), My Pay and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). MY BIZ provides employees with important human resources, compensation and benefits information in one account.
