SAVI stands for the Navy’s Sexual Assault Victims Intervention Program. In the military there is a system in place to help victims of sexual assault come forward and seek treatment from Medical, help from Security or off base police, the Chaplain and the Fleet and Family Support Center. One of the most important aspects of the system is the trained Sexual Assault Victim Advocates.
Every command should have volunteer SAVI advocates on call 24 hours a day⁄7 days a week trained on how to respond to sexual assault victims. Victim advocates are not counselors but companions who will guide the victims to the proper resources and services to help cope with the trauma and healing process resulting from a sexual assault. Most importantly, victim advocates empower the victim to take back the control of his⁄her life. It is important for victims of sexual assault to be believed and supported. 24-Hour SAVI Advocate Number: 540-424-0660
