Morale, Welfare and Recreation sponsors recreation-based programs and facilities for residents andemployees at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. These services form a web of activities which include athletics,childcare, dining and entertainment. MWR provides information about upcoming events on its Web site, inthe Tester, Patuxent Trails, on signboards and in literature stands on station. Auto Skills Center

MWR’s Auto Skills Center is a leisure-time facility ideal for the automotive enthusiast. The center features seven repair stalls with lifts, two car repair stalls, auto and utility trailer storage, tool rentals and weldingequipment. All active-duty and retired military, reserves, their family members, and Department of Defense employees are eligible to use this facility.

Beach House

MWR’s Beach House is located on the shores of the Patuxent River. The facility may be rented year-round for picnics, receptions and command functions. The Beach House boasts a complete kitchen and spacious serving area. A large covered pavilion, beach overlook deck,picnic tables, grills, a softball field and volleyball court are located on the Beach House grounds. All active-duty and retired military, reserves, their family members, and DoD employees are eligible to rent this facility.

Camping

Patuxent River features 41 campsites with comfort stations nestled amid the beauty of land and sea. From primitive and shoreline sites to those with water and electrical hook-ups, there is no better way to get closer to the natural beauty of the region. Campsites may be reserved at MWR’s Information, Tickets and Tours office. Camping gear may be rented at Gear Issue located inside the drill hall. All active-duty and retired military, reservists, their family members, and DoD employees are eligible to rent campsites at the station.

Commercial Sponsorship

Commercial sponsorship provides the opportunity for businesses and corporations to generate publicity by sponsoring one of MWR’s special events. This assistance generally takes the form of a financial contribution or merchandise. Any consumer product company may become an MWR sponsor. The partnership between MWR and sponsors from the community helps MWR continue to provide station residents and employees with a wide variety of fun, recreation-based activities.

Cedar Point Beach

Cedar Point Beach cozies up to the Chesapeake Bay with a stretch of sand ideal for sun bathing, swimming,picnicking and just enjoying the view. The beach islifeguard-staffed during the summer months andpopulated by swimmers until sea nettles arrive and force closure. Restroom facilities, showers, sand volleyball court and a number of covered picnic pavilions andplayground are located at the beach. The large pavilion requires a reservation.

Active-duty and retired military, reserves, DoD employees, family members and contractors are eligible to use the beach.

Cedar Point Golf Course

The Cedar Point Golf Course is laid out along the coves of the Chesapeake Bay for a truly scenic golfingexperience. The United States Golf Association-sanctioned course plays long with fast greens and water coming into play on 18 holes. The course is staffed by Professional Golf Association professionals and offers a full season of tournament play. Instruction is alsoavailable for golfers of all skill levels. Active-duty and retired military, reserves, DoD employees, familymembers, guests, and contractors are eligible to golf at Cedar Point. A driving range, practice greens, pro shop and snack bar are all available.

Center Stage Theater

The Center Stage Theater brings the magic of cinema to life at Patuxent River. The theater boasts ampleseating and state-of-the-art conference facilities. Thetheater is also ideal for children’s birthday parties. Free children’s birthday movie programs are available.

The Center Stage Theater is open to active-duty and retired military, reserves, DoD employees, contractors and family members. Call 301-342-5033 for movie schedule and play times.

Customized Creations

Customized Creations is a personalized gift shop that sells plaques, T-shirts, team uniforms, mugs, key chains, and other items. Customized Creations features agraphics corner where patrons can use speciallydesignated equipment to create their own unique designs. Active-duty and retired military, reserves, DoD employees and family members are eligible to use Customized Creations.

MWR’s personnel office is located in Building 467,adjacent to the Patuxent Landing Restaurant. This office is a resource for many job opportunities at MWR and thestation’s visitor quarters along with job opportunities at other region bases. Employment options range from childcare and customer service positions to accountingtechnicians and facility managers. MWR also offers a number of part-time jobs ideal for active-duty enlisted members.

Energy Zone

The Energy Zone, located behind the drill hall, features three studios, mirrors and changing rooms. The center offers group exercise classes taught by fitness specialists for a variety of cardiovascular workouts. Class times vary depending on the season. The center alsofeatures dance, yoga, tai-chi and other specialty classes taught by professional instructors. Group exercise passes and registration for specialty classes are conducted in the Recreation Office located in the Information, Tickets and Tours office. All active-duty and retired military, reserves, DoD employees, family members, and contractors are eligible to use this facility.

Drill Hall

The drill hall is the center of indoor recreation and athletics at the station. Located behind McDonald’s on Cedar Point Road, the drill hall features four fitness rooms, sporting activities and a wide range of information about recreational opportunities. The drill hall is open to all active-duty, reservist and retired military, DoD civilians and their family members for free. Contractors may purchase a Fitness and Sportsmembership to gain access to the facility. The following facilities are located in the drill hall:

Bowling Center

The Bowling Center is a remodeled, modern entertainment complex featuring 12 lanes, CafÈ 300 (a fully stocked snack bar), Strike Zone (bowling pro shop), 13th Alley (party area), league play, tournaments and other special promotions. Cosmic Bowling is a popular feature at the center.

Fitness and Cardiovascular Centers
MWR’s fitness centers feature a complete line of Body Master® and LifeCircuit® stations, trained fitnessspecialists and a state-of-the-art kiosk system fordesigning personalized fitness programs.

Free Weights Room
This room features plates, bars and specializedequipment for weightlifters at the station. The free weights room is located in the drill hall’s basement.

Indoor Pool
The drill hall’s lifeguard-staffed indoor pool features six lanes for fitness and recreational swimming all year long. Swimming lessons and aqua-aerobics classes also are offered.

Gear Issue 301-342-3519
At Gear Issue, station residents and employees may rent indoor and outdoor recreation equipment. This includes camping gear, picnic and party supplies,basketballs and racquets.

Racquetball, Basketball andVolleyball Courts
The facility houses three regulation-sized racquetball courts, three basketball courts, one full-sized NCAAregulation basketball court and one full-sized regulation volleyball court.

The drill hall’s Recreation Office offers information on Civilian Recreation Association memberships, the Energy Zone, ticket sales, station hunting and fishing permits, Beach House rental, table and chair rental, camping reservations, the intramural sports program, TicketMaster and upcoming athletic events.

Flight Deck Lounge

The Flight Deck Lounge is a popular place to meet after the work day and for retirement, birthday and promotion parties. Special nights featuring comedians, live bands and other entertainers highlight the club’s calendar of events. The lounge is located in the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites building and is open to officers and civilian employees who are eligible for membership in the Officers’ Club. Contractors may also use this facility.

Garden Plots

MWR manages garden plots for residents andemployees who enjoy fresh summer produce. Registration for these plots is held in March of every year. The plotsfeature water outlets for irrigation during dry spells. Rototillers may be rented at the Auto Skills Center.

Goat Locker

Information,Tickets and Tours

The Information, Tickets and Tours office, in front of the drill hall on Cedar Point Road, discounts tickets totheme parks, amusement centers, museums andattractions throughout the country. ITT is the station’s first stop when planning vacations and getaway weekends. The ITT office also sells tickets to sporting events, concerts and theatrical productions. TicketMaster® Monthly calendars are available that advertise current upcoming events in the Washington metropolitan region.

The ITT office also offers information on the Fitness and Sports membership, drill hall locker rentals, the Energy Zone, station hunting and fishing permits, Beach House rental, table and chair rental, camping reservations, the intramural sports program, TicketMaster® and upcoming events.

Liberty Program

The Liberty Program sponsors free and reduced-price recreational programs for active-duty military E1-E6. The purpose of the Liberty program is to provide station military members with improved quality of life byoffering a variety of recreation-based activities, both on and off station. Typical Liberty programs include trips to sporting events, ball games, free movies at the station theater and ski trips.

Marina

The West Basin Marina rents sailboats, Boston Whalers, V-bottoms, johnboats and canoes. The marina also features gas sales, sailing information, dry storage, launching ramps and more than 100 slips with water and electrical hook-ups. Sailing lessons are available at the marina through the sailing club. Active-duty and retired military, reserves, DoD employees and family members are eligible to use the marina.

Cedar Point Officers’ Club

The Cedar Point Officers’ Club boasts a view of the Chesapeake Bay from its dining rooms. The club is open for lunch Monday through Friday and dinner Wednesday evening. The club is an ideal place to host wedding receptions, retirement parties and other special occasions. Patrons of the Officers’ Club may use and schedule conference facilities. Active-duty and retiredmilitary, reserve officers and family members are eligible to use the club. Memberships are open to militaryofficers, DoD employees employed at Patuxent River and contractors at an equivalent GS rating. Membership is also extended to civilian retirees and members of the local Navy League.

Patuxent Landing

The Patuxent Landing Restaurant is a popular place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Navy’s Rations in Kind (RIK) program provides meals for eligible military members at the restaurant, which features hot buffet bars and a full menu. The station’s all-hands recreation center, Lil’ Eva’s, is also located in this facility in addition to a free-access CyberZone. The Patuxent Landing is open seven days a week.

Picnic Areas

The station boasts a large number of picnic and party sites ideal for enjoying the great outdoors with friends, family and co-workers. Many sites overlook the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River and feature grills and picnic tables. Playgrounds are available throughout the station.

Private Organizations and Special Interest Groups

MWR provides points of contact for a number ofprivate clubs at the station. These clubs include golfassociations, skeet club, sailing club, rod and gun club, and many more organizations.

Rassieur Youth Center

The Rassieur Youth Center, named after Patuxent River’s first commanding officer, schedules special events, trips and parties for station youth. The center is a popular place for youth who may also enjoy the outdoor pool, which is located next door. The center alsosponsors the School Age Care program, which provides care for children before and after the school day. Youth are encouraged to stop by the center to use the reading and computer center, try their hand at arts and crafts and enjoy the game tables available at the center. The Youth Center is also a Boys and Girls Clubs of America affiliate.

Rental Equipment

MWR rents a variety of equipment to station residents and employees. Equipment includes a moon bounce, dunking booth, giant BBQ grill, campers, rototillers, car dollies, tables and chairs.

Swimming Pools

The station boasts a 50-meter, eight-lane Olympic-size outdoor pool and an indoor pool in the drill hall. The outdoor pool is located next to the Rassieur Youth Center and is open for fitness and recreation swimming during the summer months. The indoor pool is open year round for fitness and recreation swimming. MWRsponsors swimming lessons, aqua-aerobics and athletic contests as part of its aquatics program. The outdoor pool may be rented for parties and other functions. Active-duty and retired military, reserves, theirfamily members and DoD employees with Civilian Recreation Association membership are eligible to use MWR pools.

Wood Hobby Shop

The Wood Hobby Shop features all the necessary tools and equipment for completing a limitless range ofwoodcrafting projects. At this facility, patrons learn the craft under the watchful eye of skilled woodcraft specialists. Active-duty and retired military, reserves, DoD employees and family members (18 years or older), and contractors are eligible to use the Wood Hobby Shop.

Navy Recreation Center Solomons

The Navy Recreation Center at Solomons gives patrons much more than accommodations. The NRC offers a full range of leisure activities and fun forthe entire family. In season, patrons may find muchto do including the Adventure Zone RecreationCenter featuring a TV lounge, arcade and gear issue.The center hosts a variety of special events includingcontests, tournaments, outdoor movie nights, a 5K run series, outdoor concerts, and many youth activities. Workshops include arts and crafts, painting andother creative ideas and volleyball courts and horseshoe pits are located throughout the facility. The NRC also offers patrons a miniature golf course and driving range. The Riverside aquatics complex maintains fourswimming pools to suit any member of the familyfrom toddlers to retirees, two water powered slides,and swimming lessons are available for beginner,intermediate and advanced swimmers. The Point Patience Marina rents annual and transient slipsfeaturing electric and water hookups, and offers aboat ramp for launching personal watercraft. The 614 ft. long, 25 ft. wide, Sunset Pier is suitable for fishingand crabbing, and the Riverside Beach offers 400 feetof shoreline, sandy beaches and a designatedswimming area plus beach boat rentals. Picnicsites, outdoor pavilions, and ball fields are alsoavailable.

Temporary accommodations are also available at the Navy Recreation Center. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 410-286-7415⁄6 or 1-800-628-9230.

Lodging facilities include 15 apartments, 14 cottages, 21 bungalows, 10 log cabins and four cozy cabins.

Three-hundred-and-six campsites feature 146 sites with full hookups; 158 with electricity and water;55 primitive sites; and 14 group sites. There is a10-day maximum in-season stay, monthly off-season; and camping and yurts are available monthly andyear-round. The NRC is open year-round.
