Headquarters Command wasactivated as a provisional headquarters on June 1, 1992 at Fort Myer, Virginia with four companies. In October 1993, the battalion was activated as apermanent unit and aligned with the Military District of Washington.

Headquarters Command Battalion is the premier headquarters commandbattalion in the Army. The battalion ensures Soldier readiness and provides logistical and personnel support in order to conduct law enforcement,contingency, ceremonial, information management and customer support operations in support for more than 6,000 Soldiers and more than 114,000 family members, retirees and veterans within the National Capital Region. The present command consists of twocompanies (Headquarters Company, United States Army; Headquarters Company, United States Army Garrison) along with the Fort Myer Military Community’s Military Personnel Division and Casualty Area Command.
